Trillium
http://www.durgan.org/URL/?Trillium 8 May 2009 Trillium
Ontario Trilliums normally bloom during May. Most Trilliums are white but can be red and everything in between. The colour is determined by the type of soil they grow in. These flowers are not rare but most Ontario residents frown on people who pick them.
A white trillium serves as the emblem and official flower of the Canadian province of Ontario.
Picking the flowers of Trillium can seriously injure the plant. The three leaves below the flower are the plant’s only food source and a picked trillium may die or take many years to recover.Durgan

I always smile when I see these babies in our woods, sure sign of Spring for me.

I'm in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and we get them also, here in the woods. Tons of them. They haven't come out yet. I don't pick them, there's a 'law' about that here also. No need, they are out there to gaze at.
We have to go home (Ohio) tomorrow, for about a week total, for younger DS's college grad. Hope I don't miss the Trillium. I probably won't miss their whole flowering season.
Ours are all white. Makes the woods look like a fairy-land place.______
