New Gardeners
I have noticed many new gardens this year. I have also seen more people at my favorite places to buy supplies. Have you seen this in your area?

Yes, I've seen more people planting vegetables than other years. My daughter has a really gone all out this year with her garden. I'm still planting in pots....it's very hot here so we've been planting trees for shade. I'll help my daughter "put up" her veggies and she will share with us.

We have alot of people here gardening, its getting real hard to find supplies,, we needed a couple tomato cages, everyone has sold out.
Whats weird is home depot just got all their plants in, so theres plenty of plants. Usually they are here before the holiday.Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

We have noticed a bigger amount of gardeners here too. The garden centers are always crawling with poeple, where as before you had one or two other shoppers, now, there's hardly any parking even!!

I honestly can't tell. Our garden centers are always busy on weekends when I go, and I can't tell if the vegetables are doing better than the flowers, which are always big sellers here in the city. Tomato cages always go fast every year. I did notice Ace has already marked their vegs down to $1.00 a pack, it is getting kind of late to plant here, so I think they want to move them before it is too late.
I don't see anyone else around our house with a vegetable garden. At least in yards that are visible from mine. A lot of yards you can't see around back to see what they have there, so who knows?
The big hoo-ha around here has been whether or not it ought to be illegal to raise chickens in your yard. Some of the small townships don't have laws against it, and some of the yuppie parts of the city are in a big uproar about their image as upscale neighborhoods.Use it up, Wear it out,

Seems like more people are putting in veggie gardens but the stores didn't get a great supply of perennials....just that standard stuff......but GOBS of annuals. That is one thing that I cut totally out this year. If they aren't perennials or veggies......or I can't find the seeds at the dollar store...it won't be going in my garden. I even made a perennial pot instead of my normal petunias......which I miss!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of addictive digging! LOL
We just moved here in August, so I can't gauge the difference here in WY & when we were in GA. I cAN say, though, that I had 2 neighbors that were all over my iris bulbs (2-3 grocery bags to each of them) and they still wanted more after I dug them up. So I dig them up & they sit there for a week, after I'd said- come get them. I finally went & asked & BOTH of them said "sorry, we've decided to do veggies instead." I'm a trendsetter!!!

It seems like there are, but it's hard to say because I've only been out a couple of times looking for things. Home Depot did get a lot of their stuff late this year (maybe that's the case everywhere, but I really only go to HD).
It was mobbed when I went on Saturday, but it was the weekend and a beautiful day after having a few days of nonstop rain.
Gardening is definitely a bigger topic in the media this year, I've found though.

I know the Superstore near my house had to make a whole new garden center in the left front of their parking lot and it's huge! There was a long line to get even just a few things yesterday and it's always busy. I only started this year so I'm not sure if it's busier than last year. I do know that gardening is also making a huge hit up here through the media, as well.
