    Default It's planted..

Ok, I just finished planting my first tomato plant. Now let's see how much of a gardener I really am. Wish me lots of tomatoes( 6 or 7 would be nice).

Is your tomato in a big pot or in the ground like a small garden ?

We had 8 tomato plants last year, and had plenty of tomatoes.
I was counting how many we have in this year and came to the conclusion I have 48 plants in the garden and the 1 tomato patio plant on the deck. If you all hear me cursing later this summer, when I am hopefully buried in tomatoes...I will be mumbling somthing like.....what the heck was I thinking when I put all of them in ????
Course our garden is 3x what it was last year. This should be a really interesting summer

It's just one little plant in the ground. I had to put a cage around it to make sure my landlord doesn't weedwhack it. My fiancee doesn't care for fresh tomatoes so I think one plant will be enough. I eat them like apples though.

Yesterday I planted the last of my garden seeds, and the past two nights there's been frost. I saved the garden by sprinkling it lightly with the garden hose at night and early in the morning before the sun rose, so the blossoms on all the fruiting bushes should be ok.
My tender plants made it through, while the neighbours cars and lawns all had frost on them.

Got some plants from the nursery today: 6 Beefsteak tomatoes, 6 Tiny Tims, 1 6-pk of mixed petunias and 1 6-pk of cucs.
It's supposed to freeze again tonight, so I'll bring those in and just sprinkle down the garden again.
It's been a long, cold spring, and was just starting to warm up, but now the frosts have started up again.
    Oh well...every year is different...

My neighbours have gone mad with their dandelion spraying again this year, despite a high cancer rate in our town, they just don't quit, even in a high wind. Hope it doesn't harm my garden as much as it did last year.

I've got green aphids on my black current bushes, so I'd better give it a spritz with diluted dish-washing liquid solution. That got rid of them last year.

On the good side of things...there were lots of bees pollinating my Nanking cherries this year, so I hope there's a good yield, because they're great for eating out of hand, as well as being so beautiful when they flower so early in spring.

Well, good luck to you with your tomatos. Who knows, if your fiancee tries a fresh home grown tomato - he may very well change his mind...they so do NOT taste like the ones in the market. Even I'm not fond of most of them, and I love tomatos!

Oh yeah, I agree with Indigomom...absolutely nothing like a tomato fresh from the garden, warmed by the sun........YUM!!

Good luck and hope you get more than enough tomatoes!!

The other day, Safeway had real tomatoes!! They tasted soooo good.
Cat, I know you are going to have wonderful tomatoes!! I would love some beefsteak tomatoes myself - maybe later I'll try the upside down plants. One thing nice about Hawaii is that we have a loooooong growing season!!
