Picked 43 pounds of strawberries
We went strawberry picking yesterday. I had hoped to get 20 pounds. Well 43 pounds later, I have strawberries coming out of my ears! I made 2 batches of jam, have frozen at least 17 quart bags, have 3 trays drying in the dehydrator and another tray of fruit leather. That was yesterday. Today I am going to get more batches going in the dehydrator, make a strawberry pie, and freeze more for slushies and over the winter. Of course we have been eating them like crazy too. I guess we were little too good at picking LOL.

Man that is a ton of strawberries! You will enjoy them so much throughout the year though. How long did it take you to pick that many?

Yum. If we picked 43# we wouldn't even realize because we eat as fast as we pick. You got me thinking strawberries in vanilla ice cream and strawberry shortcake. Hope all that picking didn't break the bank or your back.LOL.

Wow...lots of berries.
How hard is it to make fruit leather? I would love to try to make some. Don't have a dehydrator but might have to consider it.......my freezer is stuffed.

Answers - It took us 1 hour, 6 people picking. It was $1.60 a pound, so $68 - a lot of money! You can make fruit leather on a 9x13 pan in the oven, you don't have to have a dehydrator. This was my first time making it, it was super easy, but now it is done and I can't get it off the tray very well. Not sure how it tastes yet either. I know I will love to have all those frozen berries in the winter.

WOW! I just finished a few more batches of jam and my hands are really tired. I have about 3 quarts left that I think I may just freeze. They won't make it until Sunday for a Father's Day pie
I'll have to go back and get some more for the pie. Blueberries are next, right?

WOW!!! You did great putting up all of those strawberries that fast. We are going this weekend. I'm only picking 10# to mainly make frozen strawberry jam; store jam doesn't even come close. I have a recipe for granitas that I want to try. Had never heard of them before and got a book out of the library. You gave me a good idea to freeze some for winter for drinks.
