This is the opium poppy (one type) , and the first bloom of the season. Notice the sort or lettuce like vegetation. This is distinct from the Shirley poppies which have a thinner appearing vegetation. I grow them for the beauty of the flower and they attract bees with a vengeance.

Lovely. I really like poppies. I tried to grow the blue poppies, but I was unsuccessful. I like the pink variety, too. You and your botanical name knowledge are really something. I can never remember them all. I'd have to write it down to keep up. I'm not sure I've ever seen the danish flag poppies before.

I tried twice to grow Meconopsis betonicifolia. About five years ago the seeds didn't germinate. Two years ago I got success, and placed it in the garden. It grew a bit and even survived the Winter, but the place situated was not very wet and eventually it died during the Summer heat- lack of care. I will try again, and pick a more suitable place in the garden. It sure is pretty, and to grow would be an achievement.
