Default What do you do with the water from blanching greens?

I've been blanching greens for the first time - and I can't help but to wonder if it would be OK to freeze and save the water to use in broth later.
So far, I've been dumping it into the compost after cooling it, but even that feels kind of like a waste.
What do you do with that water?

Freeze in ice cube form for adding to a soup or something later, or making a broth. Water plants with it...pour into the compost pile... I'd add it to my chickens water, but that might not be an option...

Didn't you say you had roses? I think greens are a good source of iron. Could you water the roses after the greens water cools??

I use it for broth - freezing works if you have the space. I try to plan my blanching with making and using broth. You're right - it would be a shame to waste it. Could also use it to cook pasta.

    These are all great tips.
    Two other points to ponder:
    1. If it is used to boil other foods in, how will those foods taste?
    2. Since this is broth from 'greens', will it cause diarrhea?

Personally, I'd use it to water plants; I'm sure it would be a great fertilizer.

    2. Since this is broth from 'greens', will it cause diarrhea? if the food itself doesnt cause you the runs i can imagine the blanching water would, unless you are prone to diarreah from such sources...

Just my non-doctor thoughts on it...

    Default The Green "Dash".

Well here I was thinking of beet greens, spinach and Swiss chard, and not really wanting to mix that left-over water with anything else, because of the purgative qualities of same.
Buy hey, each to his own; and appetites and preferences differ.
