Default Any way to save plants damaged by hail?

At 2am, I heard the most awful of sounds. This extremely large hail storm blew through my neighborhood and it was so loud, DS5 ran into our bedroom to hide under the covers. The storm must have lasted at least fifteen minutes and I went outside to survey the damage...

there's pieces of roof shingle all over the yard.

I checked out the garden and miraculously, the Topsy Turvy tomato planter didn't fly away (yeah, the wind was that hard). However, part of my mountain cornflower and baby's breath plants were damaged. Some of my green onions were as well, which makes me pretty sad.

Is there any way to salvage the cornflower and baby's breath plants?

They say if you can leave them alone for a day or two, then go out and remove the broken stems and leaves. Hopefully they will grow back out.

I'm so sorry you got hit with the hail, its horrible to see your plants all beat up. Hopefully you can save them.

I keep hearing my friends and the news, and other people talking about hail damaged plants, well, never have seen one, been gardening a long time too.

Sounds like the previous post gave you about the only advice that could help anyway. My post just hopefully says it rarely happens

MTTB, can you cut off just the damaged parts? If it wasn't real bad they may recover and send out new growth. Any chance that it may have beat some seeds out of the parts that had already bloomed? (so they will come back next year, is what I am thinking) Can you get some seeds from what wasn't damaged? That is about all I know.......the damage is done........can't save that part.

It is the PITS when that happens and we have a chance of it for the next four days. It damaged lots of my tomatoes last year....many still edible they just looked horrible. The petunias that it beat up I just let go......it was a done deal for them.

    Sorry this happened to you.......
