Default anyone have a weed burner?

Our farm store sells these, they are hooked to a propane tank and burns the weeds, so the entire weed dies.

Anyone have one or used one? I really hate to buy one if they don't work.

We had one several years ago. I don't know if we weren't using it correctly, but it never worked as well as it was supposed to. It was hard to kill weeds with it. Maybe because we get a lot of rain or I didn't burn each plant long enough, I don't know? Eventually we stopped using it and resorted to weed killer again.

I almost bought my husband one for Christmas one year. I showed it to him in the magazine and he started talking about "souping it up". Needless to say with the visions of the fires he would start with his new souped up version in my head I didn't buy it

Just the thought of that scares me. We are so dry right now that the Fire Chief has banned outdoor smoking in case a discarded butt starts a forest fire. The idea of someone applying a flame to vegetation makes me shudder!

We are so wet here, that we have to burn it 2x just to get rid of the weeds. My dh uses it, not me. I would be pretty darn dangerous with it!

I agree with you KeithBC.......and we are already getting your smoke from Kelowna.........hope none of my neighbors have them.

I have only known one person (cousin) that had one and they didn't like it, quit using it. That was enough for me.....chemicals it is for the stubborn ones,.......vinegar mix does pretty good for just clover and dandelions.

I thought I would add, this isnt a big weed burner that farmers use, its a smaller one to do one weed at a time. we have alot of rock laid down and have thistle and bullhead coming up like crazy. It would only be used in the rock area, which is probably 75x250 feet, thats alot of weed killer.

Theres no way I can keep up pulling them by hand, which with all the rain they are back up in a couple days. I'm really trying to stay away from weed killers, which dont seem to work very well now, maybe they got use to it?

Thanks for the advice about fires, but there isnt alot to burn there, so I dont think that would be a problem.

I have thought about rock salt, killing it off completely, but am afraid of it leaching and running off into the plants, trees and grass killing everything.

    any suggestions are welcome.

LOL--I got the big farmer one for my farm. It works great. And Tony bought a big backpack one to walk down some rows of crops and such with it. He loves it the "little firebug"

They do need caution obviously but I never used the residential home size so I can't say how they do.

I just find that the weed pullers work well. I have a garden weeder that partially removes weeds, but I saw a weed puller that grabs the entire plant out of the ground for about $35. I'd check Home Depot because I imagine the weed puller would be better than a weed burner.
