Default Red Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans)

http://www.durgan.org/URL/?GWEWD 14 August 2009 Red Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans)

This red trumpet vine is located on a property in Oakland, ON. It is growing up a hydro pole. The pictures indicate the large stalk. Ground shoots are probably cut off when the grass is cut. It is rather surprising that the utility company doesn't object. This is one of the most attractive trumpet vines I have seen.

They are very pretty. Are they related to the angle trumpet? I don't know much about them only that something that comes from the plant can be made into some kind of drug.

Here is a link detailing the trumpet vine characteristics. It is not related to the Angel or Devil's Trumpet. apparently the trumpet flower can cause itching in some people. I seldom touch them only view.

My grandma had one outside of her kitchen window (like the Kate Wolf song) when I was a kid and I thought it was large but it never obtained anywhere near the size of the one you found. Fantastic photos...thanks for sharing it.

That is one gorgeous trumpet vine. I'm going to plant one as soon as I can find a place where we can see it from the window, keep it watered fairly easily, and keep it trimmed so it doesn't get away from us. Hummingbirds love them.
Durgan, you take the best pictures. I really enjoy seeing them on your posts, and I wish my garden looked as good as yours. Truly a talented person!
