beets - cold weather veggies Zone 5?
Hi - I went to buy some seeds today and in my mind I thought beets were cold weather veggies like lettuce and spinach, but then the seed packet said plant after danger of frost...weird.

But that was for spring planting........which all seed packets pretty much follow.
You still don't want a 'hard frost' with them.......

I don't know your zone. I have direct seeded beets on 15 of July and they produced well before frost in Zone 5. Beets are amongst the easiest vegetables to grow. Under ideal conditions they will germinate in about two days. This means a heavy rainfall directly after planting then very warm weather.
Usually I plant beets in early Spring and see little difference in final production if planted up to the 15 of July.Durgan
