I had one just like it and my neighbour told me it was called Jacob's Ladder. Don't know the scientific name though.

Is it a houseplant? Almost looks like a jade plant but can't tell from the angle......what color are the undersides of the leaves? Or are the leaves variegated.......could it be a spider plant? does it send out 'little babies' from the part that, I assume, hangs down?

No....can't be a jade plant........they have fat leaves....was thinking of another one........which escapes me now........oh......I know......wondering jew plant. Are the undersides a different color?

YES it's a Tradecantia aka Wandering Jew!

It's green on top and deep purple on the underside.

I love this thing! It self propegates, and I abuse the heck out of it and still loves me!

It grows almost as well as Morning Glory (which is evasive here in zone 7b) . My son brought one home from boys scouts and he was beaming with bride of his little seedling. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it would eat the house.

Oh yeah........we have that gem here too. Was reading and saw two different timelines for the seeds of it......one article said that they seeds could stay in the ground for 15 years........another said 25 years........guess we have no hope of getting rid of it. We have the pink AND white flowered here......HATE THAT STUFF!! And my neighbors do NOTHING for theirs and let it bloom.........why do I bother???
