I found treasure in my backyard today!
I live in a flat in San Francisco, which is a house that was basically converted into 2 separate apartments. When I moved in (about a month ago) my roommates mentioned in passing that they and the people living in the other flat never used the backyard and it was very unkempt.
I finally got around to checking it out today(i'd never even seen it) and everything was badly overgrown, but I did find

Blackberry bushes!!!
I love berries, and they can be a bit pricey so I was so excited to see those bushes full of ripe berries, and nobody else even goes into the backyard so they're all mine. I might also try my hand at gardening out there but it would be a big job so we'll see.
Sorry for the long post, just had to share my excitement!

The hug was because "thanks" seemed a bit odd? CONGRATS! I love berries too and I would feel really psyched if I were in your shoes.
Good for you!

Now that is a treasue. I would love to have a place where I could grow blackberries and you are right about them being pricey. Congrats on your find and I don't blame you for not sharing.

Had a cousin that lived in Santa Rosa and I used to go pick the wild berries that grew behind his house. They were wonderful!

I have lots of them growing naturally in my neighborhood and yard - just delicious! I haven't cooked with them, I just eat them fresh. Maybe next year I'll cook some.
