    Default Recycle and mulch

My cousin came up with a great way to recycle and to recycle what you have recycled.

She shreds her waste papers, gives them to a neighbor to use as sheep bedding. When it gets dirty and gunky, she takes it back home to mulch her garden.

That's several uses good uses for the old newspaper.

We washed all three dogs today (no pesticide shampoo). We used an old kiddy pool, collected the water, and then poured it on the yard. The kiddy pool was picked up on the street over the summer on garbage day. It cost nothing and we will use it until it falls apart.

I have 3 plastic kiddy pools, I got two on freecycle and one from the trash someplace. I use them as raised beds. They are especially good for potatoes. I grow them in mostly compost, so the soil is very fluffy. When it is time to harvest the potatoes, no digging or shovelling and skewering your potatoes accidentally. You just feel around in the compost with a gloved hand and find them. And none are "lost" because it is a smallish area and only so deep, so no question on how deep to dig or anything.

That is a great idea LK. I wish I had a neighbor that I could do that with....I would give them all my shredding.

I use all my shredded items in my garden. Some I put at the bottom of planting holes for plants that like water and with my rocky ground there is not too much danger that the plant with sit with wet feet. Good drainage I have!!! The rest I just spread out to de-compose and hold moisture or put it right on the compost pile.
