My Chickens.
So I finally have my chickens. And they are awesome. A little bit skiddish but I was kinda expecting that. I got 8 Isa Brown chickens. I'm going to be using them for laying purposes and as pets haha.
Here is a picture of them all huddled around. (Sorry if it's big)

I love them all. They're so strange though. I just sit and watch them sometimes. So far I want to get more, and maybe a rooster.
I haven't gotten any eggs yet, so I'll just keep waiting. Oh and what there in right now is just temporary. Come the summer time I'll be putting them outside in a pen. I actually hope to get the old chicken coop cleaned out and built up again, with some additions.
I'm enjoying this alot.
Couple more pics.

Sounds like you're going to have a ball. Love the pictures.

Today is a very good day. One for the memory books. haha.
November 7th, 2009 is when I got my very first egg!!

I'm so excited! Me and the nephew will be eating it this morning.
Here are some pictures comparing it to a Large store bought egg.

Also today marks the countdown till my 21st birthday! 3 months to go.
Honestly I have taken to my chickens so much. I'm out with them for at least 20 mins every morning and night. They are so interesting just to watch. I'm debating on getting some more. Or getting a rooster and hatching my own little chicks.
Here's a few more pics of the chickens.

And a couple calves just cause they're cute!

Very cute. I'm curious about the one close-up, however. Have their beaks been clipped? It just looks like the conformation isn't typical, but it might just be the angle.
The egg is very cute.
So are the calves!

The set up is in a barn. So it's stone walls on 3 sides and gating on the 4th side. I love it down there, it blocks out the wind and everything. Although it gets very dark so I have to have some lights in there. Come summer time I think I'm going to let them free range in the pastures.
And about the beaks I have no idea! I will be taking a look at the rest of them today and see if they are all like that.
I'm missing my chickens today, I'm away on a girls shopping trip. So I couldn't see them yesterday. So excited to go home today!

I got my chickens in June. My friend gave them to me because her DH got transferred to Japan. They are little silkie bantams. She said there were 3 roosters and 5 hens. Well, there are 5 roosters and 3 hens!!!! I also decided to hatch some eggs. We got 19 chicks and since it was July when they hatched, they all survived! Now I am still trying to get rid of some of the pullets before the roosters rip each other to shreds.
I used Storeys Guide to Chickens (or something like that) and really recommend that book. Good luck with the girls! I love your calves. I want to get some Angora goats next year but we will see.
