I am getting alot of seed catologs and would like to know what's the best one to order from. Should I buy organic seeds or what types? See I am new to buying seeds, we just started last year and what whatever seed was at TS.

This will be interesting to follow as I am sure everyone has their favorites.

For me it would depend on who has first: what I want, second: at a reasonable price, third: depending on their shipping charges, and if I have ordered from them and had good luck with the germination.

Having said that - my favorites that I have ordered from and had very good luck with germination are:

www.nicholsgardennursery.com they are out of Albany, Oregon. Reasonable shipping and sell other fun stuff too - books, spices, and assort. hobby stuff.

Also - www.superseeds.com Their catalog comes as Pinetree Garden Seeds, so very misleading when you try to find them on the web. Good germination, have lots of short season tomatoes and fun stuff.

Get others, but have never ordered from them - Totally Tomatoes, Park Seed, etc.

Good luck and let us know which one you order from or if you find a new one. I love my garden catalogs!!!

I think it will depend on where you live. I tend to order from catalogs that are from northern areas. I think their products would grow better up here. Having said that, I like Gurney's & Totally Tomatoes.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are concerned about GMO seed, that is going to impact who you'd order from.

If your top priority is price, that's going to be a whole different set of companies.

Anyone know a good catalog for heirloom seeds? I'm thinking about trying those this year.
    Thanks!

My husband just got a very nice Heirloom seed catalog in the mail the other day. I will ask him the name and information when he gets home and post it for you.

I'm a Pine Tree Garden Seeds fan too! I've only ordered from them for years because they offer heirloom varieties instead of hybrids. This year I'm going to try to save the seeds and regrow.

    Dave's Garden Watchdog: http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/

An invaluable source of reviews on mail order companies. I don't even look at a catalog until I have checked there.

A number of places now sell organic and heirloom seeds, they've become more popular and easier to get. They may not always be the best choice for your area, or your soil though. Hybrids often have better disease resistance, and treated seed is produced for the same reason.
