    Default permaculture

    Anybody else here studied permaculture?

I would think it would be the ultimate for frugal gardening: no irrigation, no fertilizing, no pest control. Just harvest, year after year.

I've read one of the books, but no one around me seems to know much about it and I haven't done much with it. I can find things online, but no personal contact. I admit that I've only looked a little bit, and not lately.

Part of the reason I didn't pursue permaculture was that I have been trying to find someone to talk to about coppice in New England for many years. The state ag group goes, "Whaaa?" and I got so disgusted that when I ran across permaculture I didn't go beyond a cursory search.

I have an idea I'll PM you.

I have heard of it, but I haven't studied it yet. I would like to try it. There is quite a bit of interest in it in my community. There's even a guy giving workshops in it. The workshops are expensive, though, so I think I will wait for a few more people to take them and then pick their brains.

The no-till, no fertilizer aspect would work here, but the no irrigation part wouldn't. We don't get any rain in the summer any more. But I store rainwater, so that would work.
