    Default Trying again

Well last year we tried a little container gardening. It flopped. DS's dumb dog decided my dirt was better than the other dirt and rolled all but 1 of my seedlings into nothingness. DH has agreed that we can get a little fence for my side yard area and move my containers over there. We are even going to make a little flowerbed/garden area over there and plant possibly grapes or some kind of berries. I think it will be great as long as the dog doesn't learn how to open my gate.

I know what your saying. I have a new adopted dog and she loves to dig holes in my flowerbed. I am curious to see if any of my perennials have survived. I want to get a fence to put around it also. I hope it works for both of us.

I hate when the dogs walk in my garden. Good luck!

We put a wire fence around an 8 by 13 foot area and my dh tilled it up for a garden. We have used that area for a few years and I am always surprised at how much we get from it. We plant peas, onions, lettuce first, then beans, tomatoes, cukes, squash and peppers. A couple of yrs we planted potatoes, but they take up alot of room. I can buy 50 lbs of potatoes for 9.99 anyway.

You could try hanging baskets for cukes, squash, zuchini and a few others.

I built a fence with tree stakes and chicken wire, I was pretty proud of it and it was about 4 ft high. One day we heard barking and the Golden was IN the garden but couldn't figure out how to get back out. Brat mutt. Oh, and she destroyed the garden while in there, OF COURSE.

Hubby got our rototiller out today, and did the front area. I think he is wanting to put peas on. Nothing locally yet available for seed, but I do have some old seed, I told him, he could get started with.

Problem is...our chickens. Hubby thinks it is neat to let them free range half of the day. They sure can scratch up a area real quick. Thinking about a fence around the garden .........

Our 2 dogs are old and slowing down a lot. They don't bother the garden, thanks goodness.
