Mmm, it looks like spaghetti but it isn't. I like mine with some olive oil, fresh basil (torn into little pieces) and grated romano or parmesan cheese.... warm.

That sounds wonderful, Ceashels! My hubby always tells me he wants to be a squash farmer and keeps planting lots of acorn squash and zucchini. Maybe this year we'll get adventurous and try planting some acorn squash. It's so easy to cook, I usually pierce it and then microwave it for a bit. Then either use it with spaghetti sauce or mix it with some butter, garlic and parmesan.

It is stringy like spaghetti.......and sorry Ceashels...........I didn't like it. Had never even eaten it until last year and the purpose of trying it was to see if I wanted to grow it..........I DON'T! Didn't like anything about it.......texture or flavor.........or lack thereof.

Because you can end up with LOTS of any kind of squash you plant.....I suggest you go buy one and try it before planting any. I still see it in our stores here....but you might have to check.........DO BUY ONE if you haven't eaten it before.

My favorites......and they are great keepers.........is acorn, buttercup, and butternut.

Totally agree with you about planting squash w/o knowing if you like it. FF

It has a texture and flavor similar to yellow squash. The flesh inside breaks down into strings that kind of look like spaghetti, but do not have a taste or texture anything like pasta. Tried it once with tomato sauce just to see... did not enjoy the combination. It has a very mild flavor, sometimes almost no flavor. I eat mine with butter and S&P. DH doesn't care for it.

I love it! As others have said, its taste in insipid, but so is pasta. It takes on the flavor of what you add to it. I actually prefer it to spaghetti.

Thanks for all the messages. We did plant two plants. They have both sprouted. I didn't go buy one I just think I will wait and see. I know we may not like it but then I will just share it with others and sure I will find someone that likes it. I have only grown the yellow summer squash and lot of zucchini. We plant 10 zucchini plants every year. I guess you can say we LOVE it! I have never tried other squash other then them. We are also planting a butternut squash to try. I can't wait! We are going to try to plant a few things new every year. Thanks again for all the replys

    I love squash
But I can't get excited about spaghetti squash.
I like the winter type ones the best. My hubby likes vegtables but squash is not on the list. I normally steam them, mash, and bag off into 1 cup packages to freeze. When I get a hankering for some, I just defrost on a plate with little slivers of real butter. No margerine on my squash

I am exicited just to try it. I know we might not like it but oh well. I can always pass it on to the someone else. I live in the city and have lived there able three years. We have always put out a garden wherever we have lived so when we put our garden out the first year the neighbors was looking at us like we was crazy..lol. Now three years later the neighbor behind us, across the street and both sides of us all put out gardens. So we all share whats in our garden with each other. So hopefully if we don't like it we can find someone who will. I just love to grow something new and try it.

One year I planted some in the back, near the railroad tracks. The seeds must've been in a very fertile spot because the vines grew prodigiously, clambered up the embankment, into the wild blackberry brambles, caught a low-hanging branch of an ash tree, and said good-bye to Earth. That autumn I was out by the tracks on a ladder, picking spaghetti squash out of a tree.

    This is absolutely hysterical.

I've never tried it, but want to. I found a recipe similar to what you mentioned Ceashels, but also adding tomatoes, onion, bell peppers, etc.

Mmmm, just made some squash. I didn't over cook it so the strands are nice and crunchy then I dressed it with a drizzle of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and some salt.
