Default I am so excited, we're getting chickens - finally!

Dh and I talked about it last year and we both wanted to get them however we couldn't agree on where to put them in the yard.

I wanted them in the back of the yard where we have some space for them, dh wanted to put them in the middle of the yard on the piece of ground that I use for veggies.

Apart from the fact that I would have trouble finding space for veggies (the bit at the back is not suitable for growing veggies), I thought that the balance would be out of the back yard.

We were talking about this again at the weekend and he has agreed that we will put them in the area where I want them.
    Yeah!!!
Not that I needed to get my own way but it makes sense to put them in the open space at the back.
    So we're getting chickens!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!

Congrats! I love my chickens, i currently have 55 outside, 17 in the brooder inside and 8 dozen eggs just starting to hatch in the incubators. Plus we added 4 turkeys to the mix yesterday...lol. They are addicting, kinda like chips you cant have just one....lol

    Lucky!
I have always wanted chickens but my husband always disagreed. Truthfully, we have too much wildlife, and trying to keep the chicken's safe would be an ongoing battle......

But I grew up with chicken's and have the fondest memories of them. Enjoy.

    Default update on the chickens

Well today I will be going to the place where I can get our chickens (possibly).
They will probably be 'barnevelders' which are large brown chickens originating from the place Barneveld in Holland and are very tame and good layers.

They also have Sussex Columbia and Welsumers (I don't know if these are the same types as you can get in the US).
The Sussex ones are large white ones and the Welsumer are very large brown hens which lay very large eggs.
Both these chickens are good layers too and become quite tame.

I won't be having any baby chicks unfortunately since I don't have the facilities for them.
These chickens that we will be buying are ready to start laying eggs.

I can't have a rooster even though I would LOVE to since we are in an almost urban area and even though a couple of my neighbors wouldn't mind I think, there are always those who moan about anything.

    Wish me luck.
