    Default Garden log book?

As my garden expands and my memory fades, I think I'm going to need some sort of log book to keep track of what has been planted where. I want to keep track in an effort to keep my crops rotated.

So give me some ideas to accomplish this EASILY and cheaply. Does anybody else keep a log book?

The only thing that comes to mind is to draw a simple sketch of your garden and write in what was planted in each area.

    Pretty easy - super cheap.

Keeping a log has turned into an impossible task for me. I'll forget, or do the "I'll write it in later" thing. Since I have markers in every bed in my garden, I just leave them there at the end of the season. The next year I know just what's been there.

I personally don't have a garden, but my mom has several and she writes what it is on a popsicle stick. The stick is there the next year when she goes to plant. She is growing a pretty extensive garden this year....I'll have to see if she has a log book of sorts....

I always rototill in some leaves, and next year straw, at the end of the season so that won't work for me.

I always mean to and then it never happens. But I do take photos, as the season progresses, so I can look back at those if I need to.

I don't know what kind of logbook you need, but writing on a calendar what you've planted, etc, may help. It's simple.

    I used to.

It was just a small spiral notebook and I wrote down which plants were in which bed......if a normal shape bed.

I mainly did this when I was buying lots of clematis (so I wouldn't buy doubles). It fit in my purse/pocket and I could take it with me to the store.

My rose garden was sort of kidney shaped so I drew it out and wrote in the plants and where they were at.

This worked really well......and I need to get back to it........BUT THEN.......I started losing lots of flowers and forgot to cross them off the list.....it got all messed up.

I actually bought one a few falls ago with some coupons and a 50% off sticker. It has graph paper, line paper, and several plastic sleeves to hold stuff in. I think I paid $1.17 for it. Have used it 3 years now and haven't even made a dent in the papers. I do make a drawing and put down when things go out to the garden and at the end of the year I always write in how certain things do. Like last years note states "Horrible year for almost everything, Much too wet for tomatoes and peppers. Pumpkins did great."

I have a notebook that is my garden journal. I added tabs for the garden layouts, notes, and seed inventory. Each year I sketch out the garden and write in where I plant everything. I sketch it in pencil because it changes alot some years. This helps me rotate things. In the notes section I keep track of planting dates for seeds and transplants. I write down any problems I have had. I also keep track of how much we harvested and when. In December I can look it over and it helps me make plans for the coming spring.

My mom is making me a new garden journal. She is deocrating it with ribbons, embellishments, etc. She got a new scrapbooking tool for making notebooks and is on a notebook making frenzy!
