Default it's official...i have 'garden fever'.....(do they make a medication for that) ??

well i have been planting like crazy this spring....all from seeds, sown directly into the ground...(remembering from my 'learning experience' of trying to grow seeds in the garage windows to transplant last year)...needless to say it was a complete failure...

so this year i didn't bother...and i waited for the ground to dry out so i could till...and i waited for the ground to warm up so i could plant...and the time came for both...and i was ready and willing and ran out into the backyard and jumped right in....

the ground was tilled...the seeds were planted...and now they are finally slowly poking their tiny heads through the soil....and i lovingly stand over them and protect them from any harm....

but now...now... i have become obsessive over them.... i find myself going out to the garden 4-5 times a day 'expecting' to see that they have grown at least 2 ft from the last hour ago that i looked at them....knowing that it's crazy...but i just can't help myself...i am like a new proud mommy standing over the crib of her newborn....

they're just plants...!!!!! and i think i need some medication.....

    LOL!

I'm growing my first ever edible plants. Tomatoes (and one lonely pepper plant that I'm still not sure about yet). They are coming on like crazy right now. I check them every single day. I talk to them, I touch their leaves (looking for pests) and when I water them I either sing the Star Spangled Banner or the Alphabet song, depending on how much time I have in the mornings. I told my DH if he sees me watering the plants and my lips are moving it's because I'm singing to them and not to commit me to the Funny Farm.

    Isn't it GREAT?!

    Oh dear...

don't feel bad. I got DH nipped with the same bug.

I go outside at least twice a day because I have to water the lawn, but I find myself constantly inspecting my blueberry bushes. I told DH that once I plant the raspberries and the gooseberries, I'm gonna be bored! I love sticking my hands in the dirt and shoveling it around. I'm like you in that I also go out there and inspect the dirt for anything that may be blooming. Heck, I'd be happy with new flowers.

I know that if we ever win the lottery or buy a house after the kids are grown and out of the home, I'd be outside gardening every single chance that I can get.

There's just something completely gratifying about planting the seeds and having them grow into something delicious and organic. Last year, I was like that with the lettuce and green onions and tomatoes.

Now this year, I get to go out all day and make sure the birds aren't pecking at my bushes. I think in that case, we'd have roasted sparrow.

And yes, I totally blame Russ.

Nope...you are fine. It is just called gardening fever. Symptoms come on heavy each spring........last through July and then start to fade slowly.

And after about the tenth person that you drag out into the yard to show them your garden as you proudly explain what each plant is, the word is passed and fewer people stop by. To them you are a FANATIC.........to us you are just another gardener!!

sabrelvssammy, you are awesome and I love how you go out to your garden several times a day. If loving your plants is wrong, then I don't want to be right! LOL

LOL! That is sooo true. My hubby hates when I start a sentence with "You should see in the garden . . . "

I check our garden daily. Hoping to see something ready to eat, but not yet. Way too early. The peas are a jumping. The onions look fabulous again this year. The poor garlic was moved and then pulled up again, as hubby had dirt to move for the wood pile. But garlic is now, back in ground finally and I hope where it is, is permanent. It's not a bad thing, if all ends well
And his corn is finally starting to look good. It was a toss up there for awhile, if we would get more plants up, or if the rooster would get more of the treated seed.
We both must be checking daily as I will say to him something like...oh I see the corn is up........and he will say....yes, I see that. It was too cold here when planted, so it got slowed down.

I'm out in my garden several times a day, too. It's so fun to see what has popped up and what's getting big enough to eat. We have already had a few (very few) stalks of asparagus to eat and a few more are ready. My apple trees are covered with flowers & so is the gooseberry. Our chokecherries look great & one had a few blooms on it this year. Waiting on the crabapple to do something & the buffalo berry. I'm still waiting to transplant toms & peppers. The weather is making a big change for about the next week, so it will be too cold for them. Well, going out to hang a load & admire the garden, pick some weeds, etc.

I go out at least once a day and inspect the berry plants/bushes. I can't wait for them to come in! The raspberry bushes have me the most intrigued. They have brand new green shoots every single day! I have been perplexed as to what to put in the rest of the garden, and I sort of miss going to the greenhouse. We're heading back out this weekend and I'm going to take my time... sniff the flowers and such. I think that's what I love the most is going out and sticking my nose into the centre of a sweet-smelling flower.

I can't do that with the marigolds though.
