Outside wood boilers DEC NY state NEW RULES
Yesterday we got in the mail some paperwork from the company that we bought our outside wood furnace / boiler from. It is about changes the DEC in NY state wants to make. They want to phase out existing boilers and put more restrictions on them.
Rural Area Flexibility Analysis 6 NYCRR Part 247, Outdoor Wood Boilers - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation
If you have a OWB, please make sure to go to one of the upcoming information meetings. We plan to.
It is not fair for them to single out this source of heating. I don't see where there are worried about emissions from coal, inside wood furnaces or stoves, propane, pellet or fuel oil.
If they win this one,you can almost bet, they will go after another source of heat in the future.
Maybe this is not being done in your state yet, but it may come down to it. Keep an eye out.
We invested in one of these because we did not want to be held hostage by any heating company. In our case, it was propance.
We like wood heat better, and the bonus is our plentiful hot water and lower electric bills.

Can we charge the legislators and/or DEC rule writers with assault and vandalism since they apparantly want people to have suffered frostbite and hypothermia in their own homes and burst frozen pipes this past month?

NYS is just plain frustrating to live in.
We bought our system 2 + yrs ago through a Central Boiler dealer locally. Cost is almost $ 10,000 to buy furnace, the pipiing, parts, etc. No way am I going to let NYS win this battle. We are getting close to retirement here, with no extra money to make any other big $$ furnace changes. We love our wood heat. NYS DEC better back down from this new idea of theirs. Just go after the bad apples in the barrel. The few that like to burn garbage etc in their unit. We only burn wood in ours because we don't want to void our 25 yr warranty.

Well, we still have our propane furnace in place. It could be hooked back up if worse came to worse. But it is not what we want to use. Why should we freeze at 68 when I can keep the house 75 + and be happy. My arthuritis likes me better when I am warm. And it is sneaking up on hubby now.
NY is saying 2020 , they want the old furnaces phased out.
I plan on being very vocal about this subject. This is not a law that they are going to sneak through on us.
