Red sweet peppers
I have a sweet red pepper plant, or what was label as red pepper. It has a "ripe" pepper which is green not red & two smaller ones that are green also. My question is, Is it possible that something is "wrong" with it or just missed labeled. My mom said hers last year never turned red, so I'm not sure what is up?

Hi and welcome
QUOTE......
Sweet peppers
Sweet green bell-shaped peppers are the most popular garden variety. Left to ripen, they turn red, purple, orange or yellow and gain various levels of sweetness depending on the variety. Although the paler green and yellow tapering varieties have more flavor, all sweet peppers are similar in flavor and texture

If it is getting enough sun it will eventually start to turn red. Even "green" peppers will do this. Just give it some time. It is perfectly edible as it it, though.

The first time I planted bell peppers, they all came up green, but a little later, turned red...and yellow too, I think...hmmmm...it's been several years since then...I have several planted in the back garden this year, I guess I'll see what they're gonna do...

Could be mixed up but it's probably right and as dh tells me.."It takes time Grasshopper". I do not like peppers much but can "deal" with the red. If you let it sit on the vine, it should "redden" up and sometimes will if you pick and let set. Sorry I'm no real help but I feel your "need"...been there.

Think I'll give peppers a try and see how they do in my garden. Mahalo for the great advice!!

Yeah, green peppers are not ripe yet. They will ripen to whatever color their variety ripens to. Some people are intolerant to the green ones - they are more "gassy" and less sweet than the ripe ones are.

When the red ones are absurdly expensive, I buy the green and let them sit on the counter until they turn red. Be sure to buy ones that have no bruises or cuts - they will start to go bad there.
All peppers start out green - they change color as they ripen, but they are useable when green.

And if you're growing them, make sure you don't get the peppers wet when watering. Water from ground level, not from above. I learned that the hard way.
