Default Raspberry plants acting weird, is it normal?

I know that's sort of a strange question, but here we go:

I planted four Boynes a few weeks ago. Three of them have grown new canes and the canes are coming up from the ground. They're nice, established new canes. However, one of them isn't really doing so well. It has some growth to it, but not as much as the other three. It does have a sprout on one of the main canes, but there's nothing new coming out of the ground that'll grow very tall.

Is this normal or do I need to re-seat that raspberry bush (dig it up and replant it)?

Is it possibly planted too deep? If so, I would replant it.
If not, it may have been in shock and is just now coming out of it.

Nah I planted them all as deep as the soil container that it was in, per the instruction on the back of the card that came with the pot. I went back outside this morning and I am seeing more growth coming out of the bottom, so I think you're right about the shock thing.

i don't buy tame raspberry's i like to go out in the spring and dig small patch's of wild raspberry,s-red and black-and replant them at home as soon as i get them -I,m now placing them to form a hedge out front near the road -i have never lost a plant yet -it must be because they are hardier than domestic kinds but i will agree about the shock factor as tame plant do experience shock-- hope your berry's survive when transplanting--good luck

It seems to be doing better, though I am concerned with the leaves. A lot of them have holes in them or seem like they aren't getting enough moisture. They're very dry and brittle. There are some leaves that are pretty healthy, but the ones that are more brittle do have me a bit concerned.

I'll keep an eye on it and watch for any other things happening.

    An update:

As it turns out, the plant I was concerned with was growing a new cane about three inches from the other three. There was nothing there yesterday and then, all of the sudden, it's sticking out of the ground with a branch already forming on it! I'm happy now.

The other three are thriving excellently. One is especially happiest and has sprouted its first set of flowers. The other two have flowers, but aren't as large as the biggest one.

I'm glad to hear your plants are doing well. We don't have raspberries, but we do have blackberries and the taste of fresh berries just can't be beat! (That is, when the dogs let us have some...they're back there helping themselves way too often! )

Last year I planted two rows - 3 each of red and black - and one cane never had any growth at all on it. So I resigned myself to five raspberry plants, which is probably plenty anyway.

I went to mulch them this past weekend. There are six raspberry plants (some growing vigorously, a couple growing slowly) in three rows now.

    Raspberries are weird.
