Terraced Gardens
Has anyone ever built a garden on the side of the hill.
The hill I am thinking of currently has wildflowers and assorted bushes covering it. I'd like to use it to grow something I could harvest. It is too steep to walk on safely, so I can't just plant on the side of the hill. I'm looking for pictures and directions for building stepped/terraced gardens. I'm not really sure how they are made, can't figure out if the steps are cut into the hill,or if the beds are raised up.
Has anyone built one, have any tips, pictures or good resources?

I've never built one but our island is 95% terraces. (See my profile picture.) The most successful ones use retaining walls. Were you planning to do that? Usually just local fieldstone (drystack), not something you'd pay for. Anyway I think this is really interesting, so I wanted to subscribe to your thread so I can read more about it too
