Help! Has anyone ever used......
an owl to keep birds away from things? Or how about one of those plastic snakes??
If so, did it work? Or do you know anyone that has used one?....what were the results?
I think I could be in the same trouble as another poster........with the grass thing.
Got it planted this weekend, but saw the birds having some breakfast on it this AM. This patch is further away from the house and more in the open...........not sure my peat moss and covering it up will work. This is also in the area where they were having 'dust baths' before I got it planted!
HELP!!
Maybe I could find a plastic cat to put there????

After I washed the bird crap off the owl, the rabbits ignored it more.

Thanks for the laugh Russ. Our birds liked to sit on our owl too.
I've seen some people use aluminum pie plates (on strings) around their gardens, supposedly the birds don't like the reflective look of them.~*Darlene*~

For grass seed I put straw on top and keep it watered.

old cds on fishing string can keep things away due to refection not sure how this would help with grass unless you made two posts on either side of patch and string cds across posts .

I know someone that cuts old garden hoses and arranges them like snakes. He says they work quite well.

Thanks for the responses.....I might have to try this one..........I am glad I read it tonight.....I have some old hose in the trash for this week. Have to 'dumpster dive' into my OWN trash can!!

I didn't see the birds out there tonight......must be just good breakfast food!!

You could always get your falconer's license and just train your owl on all of those pesky birds and rabbits.

Glad to know that the owls don't work....I'm going crazy with the birds eating our blueberries... I almost spent $30 on one!

I am now moving onto the cd thing I guess. The hose was black.......and just gave them a perch!
The whole commune came in to eat this AM.......I was a crazy woman shooing them away!! SPARROWS!!
I finally put some black plastic (trash bags) over the area.......this will be a pain in the butt.....and is.......as then I have to take it all off to water. I am hoping against hope that the heat.........along with good watering......will germinate the grass. It didn't look bad tonight when I watered it.......will report back with results. If I only have to do this for a week...it will be worth it.
