Default Buying seeds for next year

I have picked up some garden seeds for 50 % off already this year. Got some peas, sweet corn, green beans in brown paper bags from the bulk bins.

Yesterday I am in the local Country Max store, trying to get a few items for the chickens. Up front near their register is 2 containers of packages of seeds. They were marked at .15 each pkg.
Quite a few of them are $ 2 each regular and this spring's seed. I got a bit carried away.....maybe...........and ended up buying 152 packages. Just over $ 22 worth. I hope the hubby lets me put in a bigger garden next year. I keep telling the hubby we better put more of our 2 acres into something we can sell instead the majority of it in lawn.

I'm gradually turning what little lawn I have into garden & patio. The front is done, I just need to finish laying down mulch. That project was knocked askew by a couple of gourds I imprudently planted up there, which have vines that must be 40 feet long by now, clambering over everything and latching onto anything vertical, climbing into neighbors' trees. So it's not quite the tidy, kempt cottage garden-type area I envisioned.

I'm not a lawn fan. Too much maintenance - and for what? Plus the weed-and-feed stuff people put on their grass is toxic.

I was talking to my husband's uncle yesterday who has a beautiful garden every year no matter how late he plants it. He grows his own plants from seeds.

So I asked him about our long vines on our pumpkin and winter squashes. He told me to let them go another week or so, and then I can nip the end of the runners. So that way the plant puts its effort into the babies already started. Have some great looking green winter squash ( buttercups ?? with the green turban ). Finally getting more pumpkins. Lots of bees working the flowers thank goodness. I was thinking about hand pollinating. Hubby whines if he does not get a lot of pumpkins to decorate with. I get a few for the freezer and the chickens get the leftovers.

Our lawn is not high maintenance. We don't put any chemicals on it. It was a old farm pasture that is now very purty. I keep telling the hubby to lay off the mowing. We have a town assessment coming up this summer and one of the things they take into account for the value is, how nice the lawn looks

I wish I could have gotten a hold of some seeds before they took the stand away at Superstore. I hate to say it, but I might have to check Wal-Mart today while we're at the mall to see if they still have theirs.

I know I shouldn't worry about it now and I don't know what house we're getting. But I'd rather buy the packages now and pack them in my gardening box than pay full price next year.
