    Default Long Gourd

20 September 2010 Long Gourds 20 September 2010 Long Gourds

These were grown by accident. I thought they were sponge gourd, but they are pretty anyway. I have done nothing with them. The longest is about 45 inches long, far from any record.

I am not sure which I am more jealous of, your great garden or your 4 legged assistant.

What do you do with long gourds?

Durgan - what do the gourds taste like? They look similar to the Asian wintermelon or a bitter gourd (ie bitter melon)

And yes I agree with Joseph, your dog is VERY cute - what kind is it?

What to do with the long gourds? At the present time I have no idea. I will let them dry if the weather holds, and then play around. Maybe some type of musical instrument, which is an off chance effort, since I am not very musical. Ideas would be welcome.

Durgan - if its what I think it is, I can tell you how we cook it. I'd have to see what the inside looks like. Is the outside of the gourd fuzzy, hairy or prickly?

The outside is dead smooth. One broke in half sometime past, and it was white with little structure at that time. I will break one today and take some pictures and post.
