    Default Heavy Frost

The first killing frost of the Fall season hit last night. Now the deep freeze begins and lasts until about 15 of April. My area will not be completely free of Frost until the end of May.

The only produce left in the garden is two large Brussels sprout plants and some leeks. All the green tomatoes were picked yesterday about half a bushel. 2010 was a fine gardening year. Probably the best encountered in my gardening experience.

Nina is a sweet dog for sure & I second the thanks for all you've shared with us. I always learn something with the knowledge you share. What do you do in the winter for fun besides plan next years garden?

It was a nippy 31º this morning and pretty with the mist hanging over the creek. Glad you picked your tomatoes yesterday but I've no doubt you've been keeping an eye on the weather.

    Stay warm Durgan!

Neena, dog, was bought as a Pomeranian, but she sure has the appearance of some type of cross. The Pomeranian is prominent. Neena is five years old, and is a great companion.

I do have a relatively dull time from about now until seed planting time about the 15 of February. I will browse various sites on the Internet and purchase seeds, walk, write on various forums, shovel snow periodically, and possibly find a new partner, since I recently divorced, due to haranguing incessantly. I have no interest in going to a warmer climate and doing nothing. I am contemplating a covered deck with clear plastic roof and siding, 12 feet by 12 feet. We do get some nice warm breaks throughout the Winter, so construction is possible. But all in all, I sort of take life as it unfolds.

We have a deck covered with corrugated plastic on the roof a,d plastic for the walls. We put the walls up when the weather turns and use the deck, comfortably all year. I bet you'll enjoy yours.

Thanks for all the information you share, it sure has helped me out here. I even grew my castor beans in planters this year, after seeing yours in 09.

We were suppose to get frost here last night, but we got lucky and it missed us, so looks like we get another week or so, they are calling for snow next tuesday.

Have a warm and safe winter.

thanks for the posts, I didn't get to do a garden myself so I got to live through yours.

BTW, hasn't dropped below 50 here yet and probably won't for awhile.

Enjoy your peaceful relaxing winter. Have you thought of an attached greenhouse? Might be able to grow something year round that way.

Here are pictures of the first Fall frost. The garden is essentially finished until next Spring. My area will be in hibernation until about the 15 of April 2011, and will not be completely free of periodic Frosts until the end of May.
