Default Trying to plan my vegetable garden

I am trying to get my vegetable garden planned out before I start seeds. Does anyone know of Gardening software or Garden Planning online? I googled it and got a few but was wondering if anyone could recommend something they had used. Thanks in advance.

I went to timssquarefootgardening.com. I found it very helpful. Tim listed his plans which you can adapt to you needs and how he rotates crops. Then I googled my hardiness zone and found a calendar that listed when to seed, plant, then harvest vegetables. It only took a few minutes and I added it to my gardening notebook.

I love, love, love winter but am looking forward to vegetable gardening this year beyond tomatoes and peppers.

I suggest you to join a home garden community and preferably from your home town . They will not only help on budgeting you but will also help you on other related things . What you will need how and even from where you should buy .

Here in Florida, U of F has an outstanding agriculture program. I get everything from their website. Find out which university in your state has the best Ag. program and see if they offer something.

I couldn't tell what part of planning you were looking for information for. Location? Design? Schedules? Crop rotation? I struggled with managing starting so many different type seeds at different times. I have started seed too early before and that caused me some problems. So I had to come up with a system.

What is very helpful for me is using a spreadsheet. I created column headers with months and weeks (Mar wk 1, Mar wk 2 etc. ) and put check marks in the appropriate columns of when I needed to start the seed. I went through my seed packets in a sitting and entered my check marks. I also made columns for identifying different characteristics so I can sort the spreadsheet (i.e. annual, perennial, flower, herb, vegetable, direct sow etc.) into groups depending on what I'm focusing on . I sometimes start a lot of different seed, so being able to sort the Month/Week kept me on track on what I had coming up and what prep work I needed to do.

There is a also a garden forum I use when I am looking for particular information and can ask questions there as well. Lots of nice pictures too!

I'm not sure about the OP, but I need help with space planning. I've looked for something online but can only find really expensive, complicated architect type software. I think I will have to resort to a piece of paper and pencil, but I am terrible at drawing.

There is no garden here yet, so I will be trying to decide the best areas on the property to plant. I want to plot out the property lines and buildings, note elevations, sunlight/shade times, location of well and septic, etc. We are planning to build a deck and fence, so I want to draw where those would go. Then decide where to build gardens and what to plant in them.

Any ideas how I do this other than hiring a landscaping engineer?
