Default What are you going to plant this year...

All the things going on in the world right now has made me realize that i want to know where my food comes from so i plan on putting in a huge garden....
I would like to can some veggies...make my own tomato sauce and make lots and lots of pickles....but i am just a beginner and am not sure what needs to be pressure cooked and what does not....so

    I would like to can

    carrotts
    string beans
    spinach
    lots and lots of fiddleheads
    beets
peas and corn...however i know you have to grow lots of peas to get just a little.....
I want to can them because you never know and i would hate to lose all that produce in something should happen to the electricity.

I want to make lots and lots of pickles and would love any recipes anyone is willing to share

Default fiddleheads are a type of fern that grow wild on river banks...

You pick them when they first start coming out of the ground and before they grow into a full size fern... they are so yummy.......and we all love them....the kids and i that is...

We always plant tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. Hoping to expand more variety this year but need to figure that out closer to planting time.

I usually plant a big garden, but then end up giving away half of it, so I am going to pare it down this year and try to have it contained in an area where I can fend off the evil ground squirrels. My plan right now is to put in potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peppers (a couple of varieties), beans (dry), and possibly some flowers. I plant garlic every year, as well, from cloves from last season's head, and I have a small asparagus bed that I've been nursing along a few years now.

Wow, it could be a whole lot of things, from lack of moisture to overcrowding to just the variety that you planted. Did you let the stalks die on their own, then wait to harvest? Were there any onions in the 100 that DID reach a full onion size?
