    Default Shower Door Garden

I'm trying something different, and will let you know later how it goes.

We made a small raised bed garden last year at this new house, and it just did so well. We loved it. But the soil is cold up here, and I have to wait quite a while before setting out plants.

Meanwhile, we remodeled the bathroom this winter, and I saved the glass shower doors. Each door has a bar across the center to hold towels or shower mat. My raised bed is small and the shower door will fit across the boards. The handle will make it easier to position and move.

The idea is that it will create a little greenhouse. We are putting it on today to start warming the soil. May keep on using it while the plants are young and tender to protect them from late spring frosts.

Do you think this will work?

Yes, I do. But be careful it doesn't get too hot in there.

That would be an issue, getting too hot,and it will---fast.As long as you can prop it up through the day,it will work well at night to keep seedlings warm.Great idea

I'm not too worried about it getting too hot because there will be some gaps. The doors will cover the garden width, but not the entire garden length. There will be about a foot gap.

The plants can actually "fry" under the glass, even if it is not tightly closed. Also it will not hold heat in at night if open at the end.Maybe stuff something in the gap at night, that will help, but remove in the morning.Just a few suggestions of things to watch out for.
