Detroit Red beets seed was planted. A four inch wide board marks the row, and the seeds are placed carefully along the board pattern at about two inch spacing, and the width of the board. The board is laid over the row until germination in about ten days. The advantage of the board is the seeds are protected from rain splatter, birds, and subject to reasonably constant moisture due to less evaporation form direct Sun.Durgan
