    Default We have chicks!

We got 6 guinea chicks yesterday. I am happy that they will rid my yard of ticks and garden pests. And of course the fresh eggs later on. The kids are excited about them too. We are on the look out for duckings now.

We are also thinking about raising rabbits. Right now we only have one. I would like to find him a special friend soon.

    That is great!

    How about some pics?

Don't forget to check your CL.........mine has been having all sorts of bunnies (due to Easter)........and chicks on it.........some of them are free!! They had a darling little lion head bunny on it that I just wanted to rush out and get......but kept my sanity and didn't!!

Just stay away from the chick catalogues, you'll want to order several of each kind!

Well we have added 6 Comet chicks and 2 Peking ducks to our brood. They are so cute. I will get some pics asap. We will need a bigger run than what we had planned on I think. I haven't decided if I want to let the comets run in the yard with the guineas or not. I might not have much of a choice if they are house together at night. The comets may just make a run for it when I let the guineas out in the morning.

The ducks will be on slug patrol when they get a little bigger. My hosta plants on the north side of the house take a beating from slugs.

We had the hardest time trying to get any chicks or ducks this year. Many places sold out within a day of their delivery. We had to call to see if Tractor Supply had them and rush out right away because they would not hold any for us.

It seems like a lot of people are getting chicks. I hope it is not just an Easter thing and then they get bored of chicks after the cuteness wears off.

    Cute chick pics! LOL!

BTW...keep an eye on the guineas when they free range. The neighboring farm had some and we have hawks. No need to go into detail, but the deed was done in my backyard. I recently had a hawk crawl under the layers of chicken wire we have as a roof on our outdoor run. It was not a pretty sight, either.

I thought Guineas were the watch dog of chickens. That they chase fox and kill snakes. That must have been one crazy hawk! Thanks for the heads up.
