    Default Garlic Growth

3 May 2011. Garlic Growth. Planted on 9 August 2010. 3 May 2011. Garlic Growth. Planted on 9 August 2010.

This hard neck garlic was planted on 9 August 2010. All ~200 cloves are growing well. It has been a very wet April and is even raining today, and the garlic is thriving. Fortunately the bed is raised so drainage is excellent.

Eat all the scapes or give them to my Italian neighbor. For most applications the scapes are equally as good as the cloves, particularly if not too mature- meaning fibrous.

When and how do you harvest these? Can you eat the green shoots that are growing out of the bulb?
While I'm at it lol, can I eat the green shoots that come out of planted onions?

    Cute little pup

Thinking about growing garlic myself, although I haven't really looked into it too much. So you plant in the fall?
