Interesting Lilac
The Lilacs in my yard are blooming and they smell WONDERFUL! I have 7 of them and when they first started blooming I thought they were all the same, but I now see that I have 5 light purple, 1 dark purple, and this one...

From Drop Box
It is all the purple flowers with white edges, except one small section of pure white flowers. So neat! I thought maybe it was two trees growing together, but its not. The white flowers are growing on the same branch as the purple ones.
Edited to add: I did some "Googling" and this type of Lilac with the white edges appears to be a bicolor Lilac called Sensation. I don't see any talk of one having white flowers on it though.Last edited by ~Sherry~; 05-26-2011 at 10:13 PM.

That is so cool! I have to get my lilac fix from all my neighbors.
Lilacs are one of my absolute favorites, unfortunately, my DH is ridiculously allergic to them. Not to the point of death, just feeling like it.
Beautiful! I can just imagine their scent! *sigh*

I wonder if it hasn't started to 'revert back'.........sometimes plants will do that (variegated plants can do this quite often).......just because. Tree peonies are notorious for it if you don't get them planted deep enough......much unlike bush peonies.
I had a Sensation, years ago, and it wouldn't hold the 'picotee' flower coloring very well. But it reverted back to lavender color. Still have it........and it is a totally pinkish lavender.
Usually they will tell you to cut the 'revert' color off...but not sure what it would be in your case. Maybe cut the one color that has the fewest stems???? Or...let it grow like that and see where it goes.

There is a WONDERFUL one out now that can not only take the heat of Phoenix..........but is 'supposed to be' cold hardy to zone 4.
From my experience I would say it is a better heat lover, than a cold lover, as I am currently 'babying' mine right now. (not sure what is wrong---hope not powdery mildew)
Doesn't get huge like the normal lilac and has beautiful foliage......
Called lace leaf lilac........or sometimes will see it as lance leaf lilac or cutleaf lilac....a light lavender in color.
A neat unusual plant........mine is about 6 x 8.

I bought one from Armstrong that did well when I lived in So Cal. I don't think they smell as good as the ones we had when I grew up in Ohio, but they look good.
