June 2011~What Are You Planting or Harvesting?
I was wondering what everyone who is gardening has been planting or harvesting. So what is going on in your garden? Did you plant or harvest anything this month?
My garden is in full swing now. Have lots of things growing and blooming.
I harvested some strawberries and cucumbers today.~Debra~Wife to Jeff

I just checked my SFG and while I was away the rabbits got into it and ate 3 tomato plants and two pepper plants so I guess I will be replanting today.

I planted:
Sugar Daddy peas
Small cucumbers
Baby carrots
purple basil
oregano
All from seed.
cherry tomato (plant)
So far everything is up as well as the bird seed that the dogs dumped into my garden. (yes, I am still whining about that because the point of a container garden is to NOT have to weed so much! But now I have instant "weeds" thanks to them.)LDR

Today I harvested a couple dozen cherry tomatoes from one of our Aerogardens, then moved the plants outside to a planter. Later today I'm going to harvest the Anaheim and bell peppers from another AG and then move those two plants outside. Our cat will be happy to get his squooshy bed by the kitchen windows back, with the AGs shut down for summer!
Other than that, I have a couple dozen tomato plants to put into planters, but I don't know if I'll get to that today or not.
We're still having frost advisories here, so we're at the beginning of our growing season. Nothing much to harvest yet, although I've been using chives and onions.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have a shady yard, so have a hard time finding places sunny enough to grow. My self-watering containers are doing well, and my tomato plants on the sunnier side of my yard are growing well. The two tomato plants that I planted on the other side (where I thought the sun could peak through), aren't growing as fast. My biggest surprise was when I went to turn the compost pile that I started last year, but didn't really think was doing anything, and discovered nice dark rich crumbly dirt! I'm not sure what to do with it now that everything is planted ... maybe I can plant some chard and lettuce in August for a fall crop, and use the compost then.

We're just getting most things planted. It's a little later than we'd like but we had too much rain earlier.
Picked a LOT of mustard greens and have them soaking in salt water. About 2 bushels. We will freeze them. We've had 6 strawberries too. Delicious!!

Like many of the others.........we are REALLY LATE this year
due to weather.......
Have some blooms on three tomato plants.
All green asparagus plants are up....purple ones are slowly coming......very slow!
Warm weather coming for weekend and might get to pick some lettuce.
Lots of blooms on the strawberries----if I can beat the birds and one 'chow hound' dog!!
The bugs left me nothing but a 'nub' on one cuke......the others are struggling due to weather. Guess I best get some in a pot----just in case.
Still have snow peas to plant but got the place ready for them
yesterday. Will have it done in the next day or two....depending on weather.

Harvesting a TON of roma and sun gold tomatoes and a few fingerling eggplants. There's a couple of bell peppers too, not quite ready.
Sadly, we are having a severe drought and although I am watering, the 100 degree temps and no rain are taking a toll. My herbs are done, the lettuce yielded one big salad and never came back and my cucumbers might pull through.
Oh well, can't fight mother nature. Live and learn. Next year will be better!

Everything is planted but the leeks and a few onions I can't find space for. Let's see, 2nd crop of radishes is coming to size, have had lots of lettuce for the last 3 weeks, pole beans are blooming, herbs all doing well, the ones that overwinter I use all year long. Potatoes are getting big, will have to check them soon and see what we have. We have little baby turnips. We should have strawberries but I think the $#@! squirrels are eating the green ones. We have blueberries coming.

I will be harvesting my potatoes this weekend as theya re starting to die back. I have some tomato plants ready to go in their place and not sure what else I may plant there, possibly some salad fixin's. Cukes are coming along nicely as is the squash, I hope to have some squash in a week or 2.
I am doing container gardening on my patio, so as soon as the plants start to show a decline they are harvested and replaced. So far so good, but it's just really starting.total debt: $23977.09 updated 04/02/11

I started so late - thank goodness for our weather year round!! Everything is from seed - green beans, pumpkins, squash, cilantro, tomatoes, and I cannot remember what else right now - lucky I like to be surprised!! There are all sorts of things coming up from our plantings at school. Have started some more seeds at home and will transplant when I can.
DD worked in our back yard and cut and planted some more ti leaves. She bought me two rosemary plants that are back there also. We have a huge aloe plant that needs to be divided and repotted.
No matter what happens, I am in much better shape than last year!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Didn't do anything in the garden today since it was a scorcher again today. I will be getting up early tomorrow morning so I can get some watering done before the 100 degrees hits us again.
The corn is feeling the heat the worst. Hopefully we won't lose to much of it. Everything else is looking okay.~Debra~Wife to Jeff

I harvested a green globe artichoke and a dozen Violetto artichokes, some strawberries and enough basil to make pesto. Still waiting for the first tomato to turn red (there is nothing like the first tomato of the year), still harvesting tree collards, chard and lettuce. I planted the corn before I left on vacation and it is all up as well as the squash and beans. I waited to plant the majority of the garden because I didn't get the automatic watering system going before vacation and didn't want to over burden the friend who was housing setting so I will get the rest in this week.
