Default Row String Marker (Dog Leash)

3 June 2011 Row string marker. (Dog leash) 3 June 2011 Row string marker. (Dog leash)
Garden row marker is convenient using a dog leash. The leash is 16 feet and spring self winding, so it is most convenient to use in making straight rows. Most rows in a home garden are shorter than 16 feet and if longer a self winding clothes line can be utilized.

Are the boards to walk on to keep you from compacting the soil?

The boards are to prevent the top of the soil from drying out, so the seeds are kept relatively moist, until they germinate.

Without the boards the seeds can get too hot from the Sun on a bright day and possibly harm the seeds, and it would be necessary to water often, with mixed results.

With the boards the seeds can be ignored until germination. Also, if necessary to water, the top of the board can be wetted and there will be enough run off to dampen the soil without disturbing the seeds. That is the theory.
