    Default Asparagus seeds?

I have one Asparagus plant in my garden that must have made its way there from the neighbor's garden. It has seeds on it... pea sized little round green seeds. Can I plant those? If so, do I need to do anything to them and is it ok to plan them this time of year?

Ours don't seem to spread their seed. I think some types are all male or something.

It's easy to grow asparagus from seed, but they'll need to be started in the house 12-14 weeks before the last frost where you live, then transplanted to your garden. Then it takes three years before you can harvest them.

The up side is asparagus is very hardy. We don't do anything with it and it comes back reliably year after year.

I'm currently growing an experimental batch of asparagus plants. I didn't get them started till mid-May. They're still inside in their little pots, but will be transplanted before fall. Whether they come up next spring or not will be interesting to see.

I also bought another packet of seed to start next March, so one way or another, we'll be adding to our asparagus bed next year.

Asparagus does not like to be transplanted, so be sure you plant it where you want it to stay.

This plant was along the edge of my perrennial garden and I didn't even realize what it was until recently. I just noticed it got cut off by the weedeater yesterday. So I have the loose top of the plant with the seeds attached. Can I save them, or no? lol

My guess is not, but you have nothing to lose by trying.

If you want asparagus from seed, I suggest buying seed now and starting it March 1 next year.

You can also grow it from roots from the greenhouse, but it's expensive that way.
