Default Damage from root weevil on peony!

Okay...........it is one thing for the bugs to chew up my FOOD ITEMS......but when you start messing with my peonies the chemicals will come out in a flash!!!

The root weevil has decimated my bush peonies in the front yard this year...........and it takes Orthene to "maybe" get rid of them. They live in the ground........and come out at night........to chew.

Here is some of the damage on one plant only......

I could just cry from all the bug damage I have had this year!!

    ON EVERYTHING!!!................

    I feel for you.
I think I'm going to have to use the bad stuff too.. if things dont slow down... Hopefully nothing gets to mine.

From the reading I have done these things are VERY HARD to get rid of............will keep you posted.......

I sprayed the other night just before dark but I suspect the damage is done............that stuff really stinks.......have never used it before.
    Used a hose end sprayer........

My variegated willow was COVERED with aphids too..........so I sprayed that too.

I was so worried I ran out to check my peonies, Thankfully they are ok, but will keep my eye on them.

We bought the ladybugs and they have really wiped out the aphids, now for the butterflies.

Keep posting on how you are doing, hopefully you can get rid of them fast, before they do more damage. Good Luck!

The damage is so extensive I don't know how I will be able to tell if there is "new" damage.......boy have I spent a lot of time reading on the net this year.........mostly ABOUT BUGS!!!

But get this........my sister was saying that a Hellebore I have (that has also been chewed) is POISON........checked for any dead bugs around it......nothing......one dead sow bug (roly poly) but nothing else.
"They" have almost killed it.........same type of chew and I don't think slugs could do this type of 'extensive' damage..........

I haven't even come CLOSE to anything near 'organic gardening' this year.........saddens me a bit........but I try to tell myself that I have learned a lot from all the reading. And I "HAD" a beautiful crop of earthworms too.........couldn't even turn over a spade of dirt w/o finding an earthworm........a good sign. (only wish they ate other bugs!!)

Feel like I am living in some HORROR MOVIE!!!

    I am so sorry!

I know how your heart sinks to your feet when you find damage like you have. I have never had this many problems with the garden before, I keep telling dh that I'm about ready to pull the entire garden and start over next year!

I now have a problem with the green pepper plants, have no idea whats going on, will have to "read" more and try to figure it out.

We don't really have a slug problem here, my Dad had them in his strawberries once, but he put beer level with the ground and had them all wiped out in a week. I dont think you will have that kind of luck where you are at, I've seen some of your slugs ...that were bigger than my foot!

I also have worms like crazy, maybe they have something to do with these bugs, lol.

Keep posting how you are doing, maybe I can learn from whats going on with you!
