Sprout Safety?
I've been thinking about sprouting lentils and I was wondering what you guys thought of this blog. E Coli freaks me out. What you guys think?

Now there is a reason for not eating the sprouts. I always found them a pain to get from plate to mouth. The fact that the salmonella and sprouts need the same environmental conditions for growth certainly means this food should be avoided. Eating such is sort of like playing Russian roulette.

No food is 100% safe.
From what I've read about this issue, the odds are heavily against this happening. I think the stat I saw was less than one percent. I concluded, after quite a bit of research, that it was something to file in my file of things not to worry all that much about.

You have a bigger chance of getting ill from commercially grown than home sprouts. Come to think of it, I've only heard of it happening with commercially grown sprouts. If you use beans that are grown for specifically for sprouting and do small batches, make sure you follow the steps I don't think you are in any danger of becoming ill.

Wash 'em! If you are really worried, wash them with some dishwashing soap, and then rinse them.
More importantly, wash your hands! E. coli grows in the intestine. ("Coli means "of the colon".) E. coli infection is a product of sloppy bathroom hygiene.
Then grow your sprouts. Life is too short to be that worried.
