Default I think my rhubarb died...

I tried growing rhubarb for the first time this year - I bought several large clumps off of a woman on craigslist. They seemed very healthy. I planted them, watered them and they had new growth. Since it's gotten so hot out, they wilted (despite plenty of water) and they seem to have died. Any chance the root could be alive and next spring they'll come up?

There's a chance. The same thing happened to my swiss chard, just too hot out. Unfortunately it won't come back.

You rhubarb should be OK- I've had that happen several times in extreme weather.

Mine dies back every summer too, it'll be fine most likely. Don't forget to water it so the roots and etc can continue to do their thing storing stuff up for the winter.

I planted some in a container last year and got tired of watering it aroudn Augusta or September. I left the pot with the potting soil on the porch where rain water couldn't get to it. Around January or February after a couple of freezes I put the pot with the potting soil in a closet. About 2 months later I reused some of the soil in another pot but left the pot have full of dirt on the porch where rain could get to it. A couple of weeks later the Rhubarb came back up.

I think its fair to say they are fairly rugged plants.

Yes, I bet it will. They are super hardy! Keep some water on it though..........it is putting down roots right now. Next year you will get the stocks.

A couple years ago I had a huge row of rhubarb. It was so hardy that it never mattered if I accidentally hit it with the lawn mower lol It always came back huge and strong.

Where I live now, I planted 3 plants. This is its second year and it didnt look at that great again this year. All 3 plants did come up but they didnt get huge like everyone else's and they died off a good month ago.
