    Default Black Krim Tomato

25 July 2011 Black Krim Tomato 25 July 2011 Black Krim Tomato

There are about ten Black Krim tomato plants. This is my favorite tomato. It is a dark fleshed heritage type, which I grew from seed. It has a nice texture and certainly a strong tomato taste with a thin skin. I have found that all the dark skinned tomatoes are essentially the same; in fact, when grown side by side it is impossible to tell them apart. Many heritage types are distorted and cracked, this one is relatively nice shaped and devoid of serious deep grooves. It is also about palm sized.

The first time I tried eating one of these tomatoes was not a good sight, the color is almost like eating a rotton tomato, now I love a great big slice, warm from the garden.

That is funny. Last year I gave three Black Krim in pristine condition to a tomato lover trying to impress her. Her daughter told me that she would use them in a sauce, since she assumed they were the typical tomato that was overripe. I almost cried. I do admit they do look a bit rotten when sliced.

I love the Black Krim. I'm not going to get any toms at all this year because of all the rain we've had this year. very disappointed. In fact, the only thing that I'll be able to can will be carrots & maybe dehydrate some onions & garlic.
