Default A quick video of my homestead too

I thought since Lynn posted hers, I could do mine too. You'll have to excuse some storm damage. The last one we had tore up the fence that you see towards the end. We'll have that fixed this coming weekend. We have no idea where some of those pickets wound up. The wind knocked around some chairs etc, and the weeds are going nuts, but the bunnies and chickens like the weeds so we harvest those for them.

I'll do another video another time of the chickens, rabbits, ducks, and quail. The glimpse you get here isn't really showing their whole area. When the chickens heard me coming they went around the other side waiting for treats, so you can't see any of the girls.

I own a fifth of an acre, half of which is taken up by a house, cars, and damaged/ rock imbedded earth (oils from cars etc). my front yard (the one with the tomatoes under the slide) is 30x20, the alley yard, with t he wooden planter boxes of corn, squash, pumpkin is 9 x 65. the back garden is 20 x 25. It seems big because of all the stuff I crammed in there.

Hmm... trying to visualize what size that is..lol...

Ok, looked it up, we have .16 acre. However there is the house, a front to back driveway with double garage, deck, a dog pen and 2 sheds.... Now to see how I can maximize, tearing down buildings not an option..lol

Actual back yard area is approx 1600 sqft less 1 shed, a play set, a trampoline....and a big spruce.

The front yard has approx 500sqft of usable space(extra parking pad in the front and it's a pie shaped lot).

Not lots of plantable space at all..hmmm...

Need to research. Definitely looking at tiered vertical planting to maximize.

Great garden, I love how you used and reused stuff, your garden seems huge, you have been able to put a lot in a small place.

    Love it.

How old are your kids? I say an old pool being used as a big planter(thanks for that idea!) and an old swingset that is being used for climbing plants I think, but no play area.

Dh would shoot me if I took out all the lawn..lol. But we're working on small areas!

6, 9, and 12. the pool thing was a sandbox. It has a crack down the bottom and neighborhood cats were using it because the lid was warped. The lid is now upside down being used as another planter. The slide is fully useable, just under it is planted. The swings are open for swinging, and the monkey bars have things growing up them too, left those out of the video. The 6 yo (who is the only one who uses it) HATES the monkey bars and I worry him falling, so I use it for plants instead. Mine all prefer their bikes and the park down the road where they gan get really runnin good with their soccer balls. No room for that before I even thought to garden bigger scale in the yard.

Ok, now I see the whole picture. I was thinking they were older teens, but yes, I can see if you're close to a park how that would work. We're several blocks away from one, so you're lucky. I really wish we were close.

Off to the greenhouse, need some seeds for late planting.

it's a quarter mile away as the crow flies, but we don't mind the walk. It's the walk back....and uphill that kills us. But they and I don't really miss the playyard one little bit.

1/4 mile isn't bad. We're about 1 mile, easy bike, not such a great walk. Makes me want a bike for me too, to get them there more often.
