    Default Spanish Onions

    30 July 2011 Spanish Onions. 30 July 2011 Onions
The two rows of onions were pulled today (about 60 onions). Time to pull is determined by the stalks falling over and going soft just above the bulb. They will be allowed to dry in the Sun for about two days then will be trimmed for storage in the cold room. Spanish onion don’t store as well as stronger onions, but two to three months storage time is possible, depending somewhat upon the temperature and humidity.

Looks like Ginny has turned into a gardener! Your onions look good, I've never had any luck with them.
Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

Onions are planted as early as he ground can be worked in the Spring. This applies to all the onion types, (except for garlic which should be planted in the Fall). Plant, keep the weeds out and let them grow. Six inch centers are about right between plants.

Not sure what is meant by sets. Multiplier onions might produces some table greens before Winter. All said, it doesn't take much effort to plant a row and note the outcome.

Here the call the small onions that you plant "onion sets". I have small onion bulbs and it is almost august. I didn't get a chance to plant them in the spring. Do you think I can plant them in the fall or do I have to hold on to them until next spring?Thank you!
