Yellow nut sedge, (Cyperus esculentus)

This weed has appeared on my garden at various places. It tends to favor damp areas and inter grows with most garden produce. It is most unappealing on a well kept lawn since its growth is such that it stand out above the normal grass plain. It propagates mostly by rhizomes so simply cutting it off is not a solution. Control is possible in the home garden by pulling. Fortunately, this is relatively easy since the roots are loosely connected to the soil, and the sedge stem is strong so doesn’t break off when pulled. The weed grows about two feet tall and is ubiquitous.Durgan

I have not seen this in VA or NC before. Are their uses for it other than compost matter?
