I haven't seen a good deal on cereal in quite a while... so I haven't bought any.

I had notice popcorn (bulk for air popper) went up $1.93 to $2.29 since I bought it last (maybe a month ago)

We also noticed some more shrinking packages such as the goldfish at Costco... don't know for sure since I don't know how much the boxes used to contain but the bags sure seemed smaller.

Techincally the answer you be no. not in a market based economy as the people in the market for things technically sets the market.

It is a balancing act between manufactures, stores, and consumers.

That said I do think that increase the price so high that some people can't buy it.

You can already see people that won't buy something. Many here are doing that already.

I found this article dated Feb 2011 and titled "Food prices could reach 2008 levels"
Food prices could reach 2008 level: USDA | Reuters

    and it says this

"Leibtag said the willingness of retailers to absorb price increases and not pass all of them onto consumers is, for now, helping keep prices below their 2007 and 2008 levels."

    Unhappy Food prices

I just went to Aldi's this morning to pick up a few items and boy was I surprised at the prices !! I have not been there in quite a while because it is clear on the other side of town, and honestly I often forget it's even there. My list included:

    Bread, Split-top wheat ----- $.99
    Milk, 2%, gal. -------------- $2.29
    Eggs, 1 doz., large ----------$1.39
    Tomatoes, 1lb. on vine ------$1.99
    2 Liter cola -----------------$.59, each x2
    Peaches-------------------- $.33, each x3

To me, the cola and the peaches were the only bargain. I needed some other items, but I thought I could do just as good or better at Kroger (on special) or Walmart.
