did food prices double?
I am listening to a podcast from 2008 and the speaker, Marjory Wildcraft said that our food prices will double in 2011. It is just August and I admit prices have increased but not doubled. Or am I wrong and just don't remember the food prices of 2008. There are people who keep up with the prices of food and I must admit that I should have been one to have paid attention.
So.....did food prices double?Step 1 $207/1500
Step 2 Student loan $160.00 monthly
Schewels paid
Step 3 $252/$15000
Step 4
Step 5 1 child in college graduates 12/12
2 child $50.00
Step 6 $70,761/$93,000
Step 7 Build wealth & give.

I dont think they doubled but was projected to go up 20-25% this year. I noticed the sugar that i normally buy went up from $2.20 a 4lb up to $2.60 for 4lbs. also noticed the powdered milk at sams went from $11.xx up to $13.xx. I am going shopping today so will probably really notice prices today

Do you mind taking a note of food prices that have increased dramatically when you go shopping today and post? I am ready to start paying attention to food prices. I was looking at the sales flyers and was trying to plan meals. I couldn't decide if anything advertised was a "true" sale.
Thanks!Step 1 $207/1500

i think it is inevitable..
we are living in unpredictable times and i am sure that by december 2012 groceries will have doubled.....absolutely ridiculous but there are people out there that thing the world is going to suffer an extreme disaster...so the media is going to play on this hype...I have personally researched all these events that people have predicted will happen in whatever year and this has been going on for centuries....so i personally am not worried and believe i will wake up december 24, 2012 as it was any other day....but there are people out there that think differently....so again the media is going to play on this and people are going to hoard...I am just thankful that i found this website and was able to prepare so my family will be okay and just because i cant afford to buy the food that is so outrageously priced...i will be set because i plan on having at least a year supply and possibly more....

~Doubled since 2008 or doubled just this year?
I know our food costs have gone up 30% from last year to this year but we did add to our family.
Many items at Aldi have doubled from about 2008 until now. A few that come to mind immediately are butter, bread, coffee, chocolate, and flour.~~Constance

They haven't doubled here. They're going up, but not as drastically as reading these forums would make a person think.
It seems like the biggest price increases have been in the snack food area. Other things are going up, but not as drastically, at least what I've noticed recently. It's been yet another incentive for me to stay away from processed foods as much as possible and make more of our food from scratch, as well as increase my gardening skills and food preservation skills along with building more garden area on our property.
I suspect the prolonged heat and drought in so much of the country this year is causing some of the big price increases for things like eggs. I would also expect price increases into the winter season for the same reason, because the corn and grains used to make cattle feed isn't being produced when it's too dry.
Ethanol production has been a big factor in the price increases for corn-based food products, too. A lot of corn that could feed cattle for milk or meat, or used to make corn-based foods is now being used to produce ethanol. Plus rising fossil fuel costs to run farm equipment have pushed prices higher. It takes a lot of fuel to produce crops.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
