    Default Devil’s Trumpet

    17 August 2011 Datura metel, Devil's Trumpet 17 August 2011 Datura metel, Devil’s Trumpet

There are two Devil’s Trumpet plants in the garden. They self seed each year, and they are allowed to grow where convenient. The flowers are a almost perfect white. The plants this year have the flowers in close clusters. Usually there is only on flower on any branch. One year there were over 100 flowers in bloom at the same time on one plant. The flowers last for one day. All parts of the plant are poisonous and send some kids to eternity, or at least on a very never to be forgotten psychic trip if ingested.

Durgan- I have these on a fencepole. Here is a pic. They only flower out at dusk. Are they also called Moonflower? I did not know they were poisonous or I would have put them in my "Witchy Garden". It has my Castor Beans, my Morning Glories, the Foxglove, the Poppies.

Some people call the Datura Metel, moonflower. Moonflower is actually a type of morning glory. When in doubt use the Latin name if possible.
