    Default Strawberry Patch Overwintering.

26 September 2011 Strrawberry Patch preparation for overwintering. 26 September 2011 Strawberry patch

Preparing strawberry patch for Winter. Rows were made between the matt of strawberries, weeds removed, compost placed in the cleared row and mulch applied. There is a combination of ever bearing and June bearing plants. This 8 by 8 foot patch is very productive. Didn’t have enough mulch to finish the job, but am expecting more this week.

I just love your posts. All your pictures are great for very visual learners like myself. I love seeing how others do things and gleaning ideas I can use or adapt for myself. Thanks a bunch!

so do you remove the plant from the rows to allow a plac to walk, or to rotate new plants and add to the soil. meaning do the rows change each year also?

Change each year or two years more of less to the best of my ability. Eventually the area becomes a matt, and has to be thinned. The composed portion will be clear by next fall and some runners will have rooted so the existing rows will be thinned or removed.
